Chicken vs Egg
Overheard a young guy in the gym this morning talking to his mate:
"Dude don't eat eggs, the cholesterol is so bad for you"
"You are better off having a Maxx's 5000 SuperGrowthExtreme Protein shake"
"Only eat grilled chicken if you're looking to get massif"
Hmmm ..sounds like the Sydney gym grape vine in action again. Lets explore it in more depth below:
Chicken vs Egg
Chicken
- Fat: 4 g
- Protein: 27 g
- Calories: 153
- Sodium: 51 mg
- Cholesterol: 75 mg
Egg
- Fat: 11 g
- Protein: 13 g
- Calories: 155
- Sodium: 124 mg
- Cholesterol: 373 mg
- Choline for brain health, antioxidants for eye health
*All numbers per 100 grams
[Insert gasp] But what about the cholesterol?
According to The Heart Foundation of Australia "all Australians who follow a healthy balanced diet low in saturated fat can eat up to six eggs each week without increasing their risk of heart disease", the Heart Foundation also state that “blood cholesterol levels are more influenced by the saturated and trans fat we eat than the cholesterol in foods”.
And wait for it ....The Foundation says those with heart disease, or who are at increased risk of it because of existing high blood cholesterol or other factors, are included in this above advice.
Bottom line is, that if you eat a well balanced diet, and don’t have an underlying health issue, cholesterol in foods like eggs isn't a worry. Eggs are a super cheap means to get your protein with the added bonus of choline & anti oxidents.

"Maxx's 5000 SuperGrowthExtreme Protein shake" ...haha love it!
What is it with these young whippa snappers that are so fixated on protein shakes rather than consuming a balanced diet?
Personally i eat up to a carton of eggs a week. Nothing like a spinach, tomato & avocado omelet after a big workout
